Visualfy

Visualfy is an app for deaf and hard of hearing people and institutions committed to accessibility, which adapts the sounds of the environment and converts them into sensory, light, color or vibration warnings.

The aim of Visualfy app is to be able to find public and private spaces (museums, hotels, stations) that have been adapted for people with hearing loss and facilitate their accessibility.

Project challenge

Redesign the Visualfy service user experience to ensure that it is the most accessible and easy to use for everyone. A redesign that meets the technical requirements of the development team, that is scalable and that is tested and validated with real users.

How can we improve the usability and design of an app for the hearing impaired with a special focus on accessibility?

How we did it

We performed a UX heuristic to find improvement points in the application processes, from onboarding to personalization and subscription to the different services.

We reviewed the interface design to propose a more user-friendly experience, focusing on the accessibility of all elements.

For example, we adapted the color palette to the needs of the interface design, respecting the brand colors but using them in an accessible way. We also checked that the typography was appropriate.

We kept the colors and icons assigned for the different types of alerts that had already been tested with the users of the application, but we made sure to maintain an appropriate contrast in each of them.

We used simple interface icons to make them easy to understand.

We reviewed all the elements to make sure they were accessible as well as trying to empathize with other types of disabilities and make the app usable not only for people with hearing impairments.

To validate that the changes applied to the app responded to the needs of the users, we conducted tests with users with hearing or vision problems, for example.

The solution

An accessible digital service designed so that anyone can receive notices of public and private spaces that have been adapted for people with hearing loss.
